Biofuels could add years to people’s lives according to a recent article in the Daily Californian regarding a scientific assessment from UC-Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
According to the Daily Californian report, the assessment found that reducing gas pollutant emissions also reduces people's chances of developing diseases caused by toxins due to gasoline burning. In examining emissions from production and transportation use of gasoline, the assessment concludes that a significant portion of disability adjusted life years is caused by pollutants generated from vehicle-produced emissions. The analysis quantifies the link between reducing gas emissions and health and will become the baseline comparison for effects of alternatively producing and using biofuels.
