Wisconsin Corn Promotion Board Directors are helping educate consumers about modern corn growing practices, uses and economics at several high-profile events including the Waukesha County Fair in Suburban Milwaukee and Farm Technology Days in Waterloo. Among the messages WCPB members are delivering include the facts that today’s farmers grow 5-times more corn on 20% fewer acres, contribute to the economy by exporting $13 billion worth of corn annually, use 36 percent less fertilizer and cut soil erosion by 44 percent.
Also at these displays consumers find the popular corn-flakes display with stickered boxes explaining that while corn prices have dropped more than 50% over the last year, retail food prices have actually increased. Displays also contain information on ethanol and a kid’s activity book showing the many uses for corn in everyday products. Alongside the corn growers displays at both of these high-profile events is a flex-fuel car and E85 information of the American Lung Association in Wisconsin. Waukesha County Fair runs now through Sunday and Farm Technology Days opens next Tuesday and runs through Thursdays, July 23.
